The Importance of Mindset in Achieving Health and Fitness Goals
Listen up, folks! If you want to achieve those health and fitness goals, you better get your mindset in check. Your attitude can make or break your success - and if you're not careful, you might end up a quivering pile of failure. So, let's explore the importance of mindset with a healthy dose of humour and sarcasm, shall we?
More often than not I encounter more and more people who sit on the "i can't do it" dogpile. They say they want to do great things and be successful, but they don’t do anything about it. They feel stuck and frustrated. They're not sure how to get out of their own way so that they can make progress towards their goals. and it just makes me sad.
I know that sometimes we feel stuck, and we look around at all the things that need to be done and we feel overwhelmed. This negative mindset is the key area that prevents a lot of people from excelling in what they want to achieve. we become so focused on the problem that we forget about the solution. We stop looking for ways to overcome our challenges and instead, we focus on how bad things are without doing anything about it. How can you get unstuck?
Most of the time the solution is right in front of you. Many of my clients have all the ability in the world to perform great feats but hold back from fear of failure, embarrasment or even discomfort (it's too heavy....before even attempting to lift) But they don't realise that they are stronger than they think. If you want to be successful in your life, then you must learn how to overcome these obstacles and get unstuck. I constantly tell people just now that it's the reps you don't want to do that count the most! all the light easy shit you did previously didn't do anything of merit to get you to your goal because you could already do it. to get what you've never had you need to do what you've never done!
Fixed vs. Growth Mindset
There are two types of people in this world: those with a fixed mindset and those with a growth mindset. If you're the former, you might as well pack it up and go home. Your abilities are predetermined, and you're never going to amount to anything. Sounds harsh but from experience it's painfully true. But if you've got a growth mindset, you're in luck! You believe that some solid graft and dedication can get you anywhere.
Where to Galvanise a Strong Ethos
So, how do you develop a strong ethos and maintain a growth mindset when it comes to health and fitness? Here are some tips:
Set realistic goals: Oh, you want to lose 50 pounds in a week? Sure thing, pal. Keep dreaming. Let's set some goals that are actually achievable, shall we?
Focus on the process: Don't worry about the end result - just enjoy the journey. Sounds like motivational bullshittery but its true. It's not like you're trying to climb Mount Everest or anything.
Surround yourself with support: Get yourself a cheerleading squad. You're going to need all the encouragement you can get when you're panting like a dog on the treadmill. You're tribe is your vibe so surround yourself with cans rather than cannaes.
Practice self-compassion: Be nice to yourself. Mind, you're only human - and humans like cake/beer/curry sometimes.
Keep learning: You don't know everything - shocking, I know. So, keep educating yourself on health and fitness topics. Maybe you'll actually learn something useful for once that wasn't on tik tok.
In conclusion, if you want to achieve those health and fitness goals, its so important to get your mindset in check. Embrace the growth mindset, set realistic goals, surround yourself with support, be kind to yourself, and keep learning. And don't forget to laugh - because let's face it, if you're not laughing, you're probably greetin.
